Access 2003:  Problem:  I cannot append to a linked Excel spreadsheet.  From 
 
what I've read in the posts, that's because there's no primary key.  The link 
 
wizard did not prompt me for a primary key, so I suspect the answer lies in 
 
creating a "local index".  How do I do that?  (Or any other suggestions you 
 
may have.)

Check Google.com for further related discussion.  As I recall, there was a 
 
"fix" required by the settlement of a lawsuit that forced Microsoft to 
 
disable aspects of how Access connects to Excel.  One of those disabled 
 
aspects was, I believe, the ability to update Excel data. 
 
Or maybe I'm confusing this with a different situation... <g>
