Allocations are initially 'soft', that is, reservations against a quantity
per inventory dimension (for example by warehouse).
Stock can be successfully reserved if there is sufficient quantity per the
inventory dimension. At this stage, no reference is made to actual stock
receipts, unless the inventory dimensions include serial/batch control.
Allocations become 'hard' when the stock is picked. Reference is then made
to an actual physcial inventory receipt.
Marking can be used to specifically convert a reservation (soft) to an
actual inventory receipt (hard).
