Hi all, running sbs2000 on Dell poweredge 2500 with perc3di configured for

raid 5 4 hard drives in containers 0-3. tried to reboot and got the message

"unexpected hard error", then when system tried to restart, the file

"ntoskrnl.exe" was missing or corrupt, i also noticed indicator on drive in

container "0" (zero) was showing drive failure.

I tried to do a repair on windows 2000 using the original disc, but it said

no hard drives are present,so could not continue (i think this is because

they are scsi drives), can anyone tell me please on the best way to aproach

this.

If i pull out the failed drive, should it reboot from the 3 good ones?, or

if possible should i try and repair the corrupt file?

I am desperate to try and get it going without data loss as we dont have a

recent full back up.

Regards

Andrew

If you have hardware RAID 5 configured correctly then you should be able

boot with one drive failing. The ntoskrnle.exe tells me that your OS or

windows directory somehow has become corrupted. Have you tried Last Known

Good Configuration when booting? Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? In

the Dell Utility Setup have you run Diagnostics for any hardware issues?
