Forgive my ignorance, but I just can't seem to find the information I need.

I have a Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2006 
 
The array Backup is: 
 
Avery hour the DPM make replica for all he Servers in the domain the server 
 
are: 
 
Jennifer: Exchange Server 
 
Pazi: File Server + DC 
 
Shirley: Sql Server  Iis Server 
 
Shadow Copy Run In 2:00 Am 
 
Consistency Check 5:00 Am 
 
My problem is: 
 
In the Protection console I see that the file server that is also my DC is 
 
in the status: 
 
Shadow copies failing 
 
What I need to Do ?

Does anyone know if DPM will see an external sata II enclosure using an 
 
Infiniband connection.

I've not seen any documenation, but does anyone know if DPM is supported to

I use NtBackup at the protected servers to backup System State. 
 
The problem with NtBackup is that it doesn't send any errors to me. 
 
Sometimes the error in NtBackup is so bad that i shows up in DPM Manager, 
 
but in most cases DPM doesn't notice any problems.

Hello Everyone, 
 
I just setup DPM created a new folder/file and synchronize. However, the new 
 
folder/file does show up until I do a shadow copy.  In the documentation it 
 
states I should not lose any data, but the last hour between synchronize and 
 
shadow copies.  How can this be possible if data does not show up until I do 
 
a shadow copy 3 or more hours later. It would appear that I would lose more 
 
than an hours worth of data.

running single DPM server with 8 protection groups. DPM shadow copies are 
 
taken nightly only, local shadow copies are taken hourly between 8AM-5PM. 
 
After nightly(>6 PM) DPM shadow is created, one server (protection group) 
 
loses all local copies. The next day local hourly copies are again created 
 
according to schedule only to be lost after DPM runs. 
 
FYI: all dpm copies and all available local copies are fully functional, no 
 
synch issues or alerts.

What is it and how do I resolve it? The server failing happens to be my most

Of course this is in preparation for backing up the DPM server to tape. What

I have not found any documentation, but I assume that you can only have one 
 
instance of the DPM Console open at a time since I'm receiving the error 
 
"Another instance of the DPM Administrator Console is already running" when I 
 
RDP into the DPM server. If that is the case, is there a hack around this or 
 
is this a "feature" of DPM to control administration?

I read some recommendations, for recovery purposes, to install OS on C:\ 
 
drive and DPM software on D:\ drive (not replicas, just software). 
 
Now, how much space do I have to allocate for this D:\ drive?. (D:\Program 
 
Files\Microsoft Data Protection Manager) 
 
Right now, I'm replicating 17Gb worth of data, and the space used is around 
 
1Gb for the software (including mdf and log).

Is there a plan in a further release of DPM to have an email notification on 
 
a success/failure of a shadow copy? (Or have i missed something and there 
 
already is one?) 
 
Its just that we have several DPM servers for our clients, and currently we 
 
have to open each console up to see if a "backup" has taken place, when we 
 
would like to have email notifications sent to us as part of our checking 
 
process. 
 
We get emails on synchronisation failures, and DPM agent problems etc. ...

DPM has this nice option to Install, update or deinstall the agents. 
 
Unfortunately, we did the following: 
 
We just deleted the old DPM server out of ADS, formatted it and installed 
 
DPM / Server 2003 again on it. 
 
The result was, that we had to uninstall every agent manually. 
 
And then, tell DPM to install the agent again. 
 
That way, it would be nice to have a "repair" oder somekind of function in t 
 
he DPM console.

I'm having problems with 3 of my 4 protected servers. I've got KB910330 and 
 
KB911169 installed on my DPM. 1.3TB of 1.8TB storage pool is unassigned.

I am using DPM to protect files on my DFS-R server. It always shows 11 or 12 
 
shadow copies even though it is set to take 3 snapshots a day. Where are they 
 
going? The allocation for the replica is 350Gb and the shadow copy area is 
 
100Gb. I updated all the clients a couple of weeks ago and after that is when 
 
I noticed the problem. It could have been happening all along though. I see

actually i'm going to set up the DPM at our network. So far installation was 
 
easy and now i'm going to add our servers to the protected groups (maybe 
 
wrong translation. I'm using the german version). 
 
I set up a group and added one member to it. Now i'd like to add another 
 
member to that group, cause the second server should be protected by the 
 
same schedule, but the Button 'Add Member' on the right is just disabled.

Does DPM support the use of disks using GPT for the storage pool. 
 
As an example we can buy a Dell MD1000 external disk array with 15 x 500GB 
 
SATA2 drives. I could configure this with 1 large RAID5 set and present a 
 
single 6.7TB to the server.
