Windows Vista - Problem with emails (Windows Mail)

I am having problems all of a sudden sending emails and sometimes receiving them too.

Here is the error message I am getting.

Account: 'mail.hover.com', Server: 'mail.hover.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

I have played around with all the settings but nothing seems to work. I have ticked the SSL and unticked it. Changed the port number and put it back to default. Nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

Hi Michael,

Seems like the client is trying to use Secure Password Authentication and it is not enabled on the Exchange Server computer. To verify what form of authentication outlook is using, it does look like you have already tried this.

Is you POP service running? can you send internal emails? Can you telnet the address to the port for example TELNET mail.hover.com 110

Another option is to restart the server to see if that helps.

If all else fails you need to get in contact with hover.com and enquire with them as the system is POP looked after this ISP.

That error means the server doesn't support an SSL connection.Go into the Advanced tab of the Properties for that mail account and uncheck SSL for both the incoming and outgoing servers.
Unchecking SSL should automatically change the receiving port from 995 to 110, but if it doesn't, change it manually.

Thanks for your help so far.

I found that once I removed the tick from the "Log on using secure password authentication" I could receive emails but still can't send them.

Here is my new error message! Again, any ideas? TIA!!!!!
